Newborn Session

Prep Guide

What to expect during your session

Dress in layers. I keep the studio very warm! Your session will last approximately 2-3 hours. Your baby is the star of the show so it all depends on him or her. Some babies are wide awake and light sleepers, while other babies never open their eyes! Either way, we will make the most of your session!

  • Toddlers and older children will be photographed at the beginning of the session.
  • Family portraits with no older children will be done at the end of the session.
  • Alternatively- feel free to have another parent arrive towards the end of the session with older children to avoid restlessness.

When To Schedule

Most newborn sessions are held between 5-14 days. Please contact me soon after your successful delivery as it may take up to a week to schedule. Please provide your little one’s birth stats such as weight, inches and birthdate.

Prepping Baby

If you can, try for some awake time before your session. Some parents will bathe baby to stimulate for some awake time. To help keep baby asleep please avoid dressing your baby with anything that goes over their head. A buttoned or zipped up pajama is perfect.

It helps to feed your baby before you head on over to the studio that way they have a full belly when you arrive.

Recommended Feeding Schedule:

  • If you live within 15 minutes:

Feed baby 20 minutes before leaving.

  • If you live within 30 minutes:

Feed baby 30 minutes before leaving.

  • If you live 1 hour away:

Feed baby right before leaving.

What To Expect

All props, styling and set-ups are provided with your creative session fee. The studio is very warm so please dress in layers! Session time usually ranges around 2-3 hours long. Please sit back and relax! I will take care of everything from soothing, changing and feeding (if bottle feeding).

What to Bring

  • Extra formula/pumped milk if bottle feeding
  • Pacifier (so helpful!)
  • Diapers and wipes
  • Hair brush if baby has lots of hair
  • Toys & snacks for older children

Family Portraits

Clothing choice is often perceived as a reflection of your personality. Some families dress casual and others get fancied up. It is totally up to you how you'd like to dress!

Wardrobe Recommendations

  • You can never go wrong with neutrals. Dress in solid neutral muted colors with a snug fit.
  • I highly recommend to avoid logos, patterns and the color yellow.
  • Jewelry should be kept to a minimum.
